Acosixsigma affirms alignment of its Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification curriculum with the Revised ASQ SSBB Body of Knowledge

ASQ has based its update to the 2007 SSBB BOK on the results of a job analysis study carried out by ASQ. In November 2006, ASQ sent a survey to more than 1,200 certified SSBBs in order to validate that the topics tested by ASQ in their certification process are, in fact, used by Black Belt practice in a wide variety of industry sectors. . Only the topics that met the concrete limits of use or importance were presented to the updated BOK. Acosixsigma's SSBB certification programs now cover the topics included in the ASQ BOK.

In general, we have not found the changes to the ASQ BOK significantly different from what Acosixsigma has been offering. Most of the content remained unchanged and our SSBB certification courses are already covering most of the new topics. The various themes that are not included we have already added them, “commented Eri G. Jorge, president of Acosixsigma from the theme review meeting in Boston.

“ASQ's BOK for Six Sigma is the closest thing to uniform standards for Six Sigma professionals. CPAs, engineers, doctors, and lawyers have uniform licensing criteria to set minimum requirements for education, experience, and knowledge. Unfortunately, there are no such official guidelines for Six Sigma professionals," Jorge continued.

When is a Black Belt not really a Black Belt? Jorge advised: “There are a number of Six Sigma programs that are widely marketed, they only apply a fraction of the BOK of SSBB. Acosixsigma is recognized for our large amount of curricular content. For example, the estimated time for a 120-hour Black Belt certification course, not including additional time allocated to a Six Sigma project. Other providers offer Black Belt training courses totaling 90 hours and I've even seen a Black Belt course advertised in 42 hours. Therefore — the variability in class hours obviously serves as a warning that buyers should carefully check when taking a particular course to the established criteria for certification. “
